It's amazing, but true............ your child can be happier, healthier and more successful in life from learning to kick, block and punch!

(See for yourself. Come along or bring your child for our FREE introductory program)

Dear Parent,

I don't blame you. You're thinking, "Come on..........how can Summit Martial Arts teach all of these great values and skills?" Well, I'm here to tell you it can, and it does so in more ways than you can even begin to imagine. My name is Sensei Riedmiller. I'm also the owner of one of the most successful Martial Arts Schools in Ohio. It's "Summit Martial Arts" -- and it's right here in Delaware, Ohio.

For 14 years, Summit Martial Arts has taught thousands of children and youth members from elementary school to high school the values of the martial arts and applying them in their daily life.

There are numerous Summit Martial Arts programs for children. We teach very effective Martial Arts.
The Summit Martial Arts Academy children/teen programs are based on the art of Traditional Karate, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The emphasis, while on self-defense, is also based on character building, teamwork, discipline and positive lifestyle habits. Taught in a positive, high energy environment, we do teach how to block punch and kick, but also focus on teaching the kids how to escape from common grabs and attacks. The Jiu-Jitsu  gives them an option of controlling and immobilizing an opponent rather than resolving a conflict with just the violence of punching and kicking.

Your child will end up knowing how to protect themselves and they'll know how to avoid danger and also how to use conflict resolution techniques – to deal with a conflict without throwing a kick, block, or punch!

It is not only fun for children, it provides many important benefits to young people. Some of these benefits are referred to in Japanese as chiiku (mental development), tokuiku (moral development) and taiiku (physical development).

In terms of chiiku (mental development), Martial Arts helps build concentration, focus, clear thinking and decisiveness.

Martial Arts has strong internal benefits as well. It helps instill patience, discipline, perseverance, understanding and open-mindedness. It builds confidence, develops self-control and increases calmness, courtesy and peace—all of which will aid everyone in every endeavor they undertake in life. These correspond to tokuiku (moral development).

Of course, Martial Arts is good for the body, too (taiiku). Physically it is excellent for the heart, builds strong bones and bigger muscles, creates resilience, and makes the body less susceptible to sickness and injury. Many of the children have started thinking they have little athletic skill, and in short period of time they become excellent young martial athletes.

In all these ways, Summit Martial Arts is profoundly helpful to young people in dealing with the many challenges facing them in today's society. It brings them balance and perspective at an age when these are needed most. It adds a strong foundation to their character. We've been nurturing and helping people like you and your children with the character building tools found only in Martial Arts. No other sport or interest can match them. In the next few paragraphs, I will explain to you how you and your child can sample all of this, and more. All at no charge. Watch as your child increases their levels of confidence, energy, discipline and spirit. You will be amazed as they become unstoppable in their search for........

  • Higher academic achievement
  • Unshakable self respect
  • Indomitable spirit and self confidence
  • Greater fitness and strength

And all of it comes from learning how to "kick, block and punch, grapple, throw." I'll bet that you're wondering if this will work for your child. I know how you feel and I understand. For me, it has to do with the feelings of peace and confidence. The more confidence a person has in themselves, the less likely they'll be to doubt themselves and their abilities. They're at peace with who they are. So what's this got to do with your child?

Look at it this way. Your child's first and greatest challenge doesn't come from "fighting for their rights on the street," or "coping with the neighborhood bully." It comes, instead, from battling darker, more sinister forces.
Your child's own fears and nagging self doubts:

"I'm not as smart as the other kids."
"I don't understand what my teacher is saying."
"I wish I was as strong, or pretty, or as tall as Nancy."
"Why does Bobby always pick on me?"
"Why can't I be as popular as Jenny?"

The issue is, how do you get your child to fight these demons? You know the problem. Your child has a tough time even talking to you about them. How will they ever learn to conquer them?

Well, the good news is, I have a proven solution. A program that has already worked for thousands of  children. A series of lessons your child can learn easier than you think. Let me tell you its secret.

Martial Arts are less about your child learning to fight others, and more about fighting themselves. Their innermost fears. Conquer them, and your child unleashes within themselves a powerful, unstoppable force. This force will give them the strength to kick down the doors of their own self doubts. This force will open your child to the tremendous power of self confidence and respect.

In other words, when your child uses the discipline of traditional Martial Arts to conquer their fears, they have the power to transfer that discipline to all other areas of his life. I know of no other sport or interest that does this better than Summit Martial Arts. (I should know. Remember, I've been practicing Martial Arts for almost 30 years.)

Now, you may be asking, how does all this "values" stuff work? And why do Summit Martial Arts manage to do a better job at teaching it? Again, more than any other activity, Summit Martial Arts gives your child the chance to explore their innate powers. They'll marvel (as you will) at their increases in strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and harmony. Yet, this is only the start. In fact, their physical skills act as a foundation for something much more important: the development of their more valuable mental and character skills. And not cut off from their physical skills, but intimately connected - even bonded - to them. Like this:

  • COURAGE  Your child finds the courage to move outside of their comfort zone. They focus themselves and learn to take on more difficult Martial Arts moves and skills. They are no longer afraid of being afraid. They learn that whatever they sow, they must reap. They learn to take responsibility for themselves. Your child will see their life as a constant, never ending journey full of opportunity. In short, with a deep breath, they refuse to become a victim of fate. They have control over their own destiny.
  • STAYING POWER  Your child finds joy in improving their physical stamina. They can walk farther, run longer, and practice skills until they get them right.
In turn, they learn not to give up. They stick things out. With the help of their Instructors, they strive harder and longer to reach their goals. Even if they fail, they preserve their self respect. They won't let their self doubts get in the way of finding ultimate solutions.
  • HONESTY   As the man said, "Where performance is measured, performance improves." Yet, your child has to first accept where they stand now. That means measuring current strengths. Above all, they learn that to succeed, they can't fool anyone, especially themselves.
This results in a keener focus. They learn to make eye contact with their teacher (and not just in Martial Arts). They pay greater attention to what each teacher says. They know and accept where they stand.

These are just three of the powerful, energizing values your child will get from our program.

In short, you can look forward to your child developing.........

  • POWERFUL SELF CONTROL  They'll refuse to give in to negative peer pressure. They'll have a deeper respect for rules.

  • IMPROVED FOCUS  They'll learn what's needed, along with the skill to "zero in" on critical tasks at hand. Normal, yet time-wasting, childhood distractions won't get in their way.

  • FEARLESS SELF CONFIDENCE  Watch as your child finds the courage to open any door life has to offer.

As you might guess, all of this couldn't have happened unless I had the very best of Instructors. To make sure I have the very best, each of them started right here in my School. Today, they are all Martial Arts experts and true International Certified Black Belts. Even our Assistant Instructors are hand picked for their traits of excellence and personally trained by me.

Now, I still know what you're thinking: "How can I know for sure the program will work for my child? Will learning to `kick, block, grapple, throw and punch' really work for them?" Well, I've made it very easy for you to find out......

Ages 4 to 6 Tiger Cubs

The Tiger Cub class focuses primarily on building the winning attributes needed for learning and productive living, discipline, courtesy, confidence, character, focus, concentration and teamwork. In addition, we focus on building the basic athletic skills of strength, flexibility and coordination. The physical martial arts skills taught at this level are not over emphasized for this age group.

Confidence for children is something that is developed at Summit Martial Arts. This confidence is then carried within your child and used by them every day of their life. When a child has the courage to overcome obstacles, success naturally follows. Summit Martial Arts teaches children how to gain control of their minds, bodies and emotions. Give your child an edge in life........Martial Arts - the gift that lasts a lifetime!

It was only a matter of time before the world found out about the wonderful advantages available to young children through training in Martial Arts. Children are now entering Summit Martial Arts at a younger and younger age. Many as early as 4  years old! With good reason, we all know how Martial Arts builds confidence and self discipline and our 4-6 pre school program specializes in developing better flexibility, balance, agility and hand eye coordination.

The positive attitudes and professional Instruction at Summit Martial Arts helps children feel good about themselves. We teach kids to think and develop discipline. They show respect for themselves, their parents, siblings and their teachers. The Tiger Cubs specialized curriculum designed will help them achieve the great skills and traits of excellence for success now and later in life.

Tiger Cubs typically graduate into the Tigers program once they are prepared for more advanced and challenging training. Students who are ready to move upward and out of the Tiger Cubs class may do so if the parent, student and Instructors feel it would be in the student's best interest. We always have and always will continue to be committed to helping all of our students reach their full potential.

JUNIOR TIGERS - Ages 7 to 10

The Junior Tiger class focuses on all aspects of martial arts training both physical and mental. Developing  discipline, courtesy, self-control, confidence, character, concentration, teamwork and focus. Athletically we work on building strength, flexibility and coordination. The physical techniques of martial arts are also stressed for this age group.

As time goes on, children are entering the Summit Martial Arts at a younger and younger age. We all know how Martial Arts builds confidence and self discipline, along with being a terrific way to develop gross motor skills and enhance balance and coordination.

However, there's always the issue of curriculum with these guys. It hardly seems fair (or intelligent) to ask them to handle the same curriculum as our, Eagles and Adults. Therefore we’ve put together a specialized curriculum that will help them achieve the great skills, traits of excellence and the same goals as our other programs but at their own pace.

Tigers is the classification for children starting the program at ages 7 to 10. They will train in their own special classes. They will follow the exact same requirements as all other kids' classes but broken up into more defined topics, with more regular feedback, progress checks and tip testing. Tigers have their very own belt and tip system that has been developed over many years to ensure progress in a constructive and fun environment. After receiving all of their progress stripes, the student is then ready to test for their Yellow  belt. For Tigers, this is a very special occasion!

Tigers will typically graduate into the Eagles program once they are prepared for more advanced and challenging training. Students who are ready to move upward and out of the Tigers class may do so if the parent, student and Instructors feel it would be in the student's best interest. We always have and always will continue to be committed to helping all of our students reach their full potential. We truly believe that our Tigers program does exactly that.

*STUDENTS WHO SHOW EXCEPTIONAL DRIVE AND ABILITY MAY BE EVALUATED FOR THE TEEN PROGRAM AT 11.

Eagles - Ages 11 to 15

The Eagles class focuses on all aspects of martial arts training both physical and mental. Developing discipline, courtesy, self-control, confidence, character, concentration, teamwork and focus. Athletically we work on building strength, flexibility and coordination. The physical techniques of martial arts are also stressed for this age group. In addition, this class is a bridge and transition period into the adult program.

We are very proud of our teenage students and the Eagles Program is all about developing fine examples of young men and young women. Young people with a very bright future. They will follow their own unique syllabus with special emphasis on wholesome values and success traits. Their specialty classes work on their unique needs and prepares them for the more physically challenging demands of the Adults program.

Remember, it’s easier to build boys and girls than it is to mend men and women!

Self confidence does not come naturally for many children. The positive attitudes and professional Instruction at Summit Martial Arts helps children feel good about themselves. We teach kids to think and develop discipline. They show respect for themselves, their parents, siblings and their teachers. Their concentration and listening skills improve, and as a result, many of our students have greatly improved their school grades.

Our program challenges the entire body, mind and spirit and develops better hand eye coordination, balance, agility and poise. Tigers will typically graduate into the Eagles program upon turning 11. Eagles will typically be integrated into the Adults program upon turning 16 may do so if the parent, student and Instructors feel it would be in the student's best interest.  *Students who show exceptional drive and ability will be evaluated for the adult program at 16.

KIDS PROGRAMS

5 REASONS WHY EVERY CHILD SHOULD BE ENROLLED AT

SUMMIT MARTIAL ARTS

1. Improved Report Cards: Our curriculum is designed to teach children the importance of concentration and focus. Improved concentration means that your child will learn more at school. Therefore, you can expect your child to receive better grades for both academics and attitude. In our School, children are encouraged to excel mentally AND physically. To assist in our student's education we sponsor reading programs and the now famous STAR Program. Efforts in these areas receive special recognition and rewards. A's and B's become normal for our "Academic Achievers".

2. Summit Martial Arts Builds Healthy Kids: Summit Martial Arts is a great work out. Your child will breathe better, eat better and sleep better. Children who take Martial Arts are slimmer, make better decisions about food, and in general, learn to take care of themselves.

3. Positive Attitude: Kids in our program learn to have a positive attitude. You won’t find yourself repeating yourself over and over, or arguing with your child like most parents do. Kids learn to be respectful of their parents and teachers. You might even catch your child saying: Yes Ma’am or Yes Sir!

4. Self Confidence: It’s true; kids who take Martial Arts develop better self confidence. They’re encouraged to take chances, to push themselves further than they thought possible. The success they experience through Summit Martial Arts teaches them that they can be successful at anything if they truly believe they can and are willing to work hard. Improved confidence leads to better grades at school, a better circle of friends, better performance in sports and extracurricular activities in general.

5. Self Defense: Summit Martial Arts teaches two forms of self defense. One is physical - your child will improve their strength, flexibility and overall health. Additionally, your child will learn to strike with tremendous power and effectiveness. Hopefully your child will never be picked on or need to fight......... But should the occasion arise, shouldn’t everyone know how to protect themselves? The second form of self defense we teach at Summit Martial Arts is internal. Children learn to spot danger and avoid dangerous people, places and activities. Summit can help your child avoid the need for a physical confrontation. This second form of self defense is perhaps the most valuable of the two.

WHY KIDS LOVE OUR CLASSES

The Classes
Every class is full of the activities kids love most; jumping, kicking, punching and tons of high energy drills that will keep them interested, excited and motivated.

WHY PARENTS LOVE OUR CLASSES

Values
Family values like respect, humility, self-control and honesty are an integral part of our Martial Arts Program. Summit Martial Arts is one on the very few places outside of the home where these principles are taught. They are the fundamental difference between Martial Arts and any other activity in which your child may participate.

Class Schedules
A few productive classes each week are all that is required to grow happier and healthier. Our class schedule is both extensive and convenient. We offer a wide variety of class times, making it possible for everyone to enjoy the benefits of Martial Arts classes regardless of their busy schedules.

Tuition
As a result of the faith we have in our curriculum and the quality of our program, we are able to allow our students to budget their tuition over time making Martial Arts affordable for everyone.

S.T.A.R. PROGRAM (4-12 year olds):

We would like to inform you about a special part of the children's program. This program is one of the most exciting and innovative programs you and your child will ever experience in the area of Personal Responsibility Education. The program is S.T.A.R. (Success Through Accepting Responsibility or Stop, Think, Act, and Review). S.T.A.R. was developed by the Jefferson Center for Education, located in Pasadena, California. The S.T.A.R. curriculum is currently used by over 5,000 schools and 50,000 classrooms across the country; it has reached nearly 2 million students. The Jefferson Center for Character Education is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization founded in 1963 which addresses the need to teach character education in both public and private schools. The Jefferson Center focuses on the systematic teaching of common values that cut across ethnic, cultural, and religious lines. These values include honesty, respect, responsibility, integrity, courage, tolerance, justice, self-confidence, and politeness. At our school our mission is to instill in students these very values using the martial arts. We believe this to be an ongoing process and not something to be achieved in a month, or year, but rather over a lifetime of education and effort. We have chosen the S.T.A.R. program because it is the perfect complement to our philosophy. S.T.A.R. will provide an ongoing, systematic method of teaching the core values on which our program is based. S.T.A.R. is designed to teach students to:

  • Accept the consequences of their actions

  • Use the S.T.A.R. Stop Think Act Review decision-making model to solve problems and resolve conflicts.

  • Develop and improve self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes.

  • Set and achieve realistic goals.

  • Accept that attendance at class, punctuality, and reliability, are part of being personally responsible. Results of Independent Studies: Studies done by two Pittsburgh, PA foundations, the Scaife Family Foundation and the Vera I. Heinz Foundation, showed dramatic decreases in disciplinary problems during an average month after the introduction of S.T.A.R. in an academic, school setting. For example, fighting decreases 25%, tardiness, 40%. The S.T.A.R. program: Theme of the Month: All monthly themes will emphasize responsibility and values. For example, February's theme is “How Can I Make Good Choices”

Monthly Activity: Each Theme of the Month will have an activity, which the student is encouraged to do. The activity will reinforce the value expressed by the monthly theme. In February, the student is to keep a logbook of kind and courteous acts done during the month.

S.T.A.R. Award: Star Patches of Achievement will go to every student who does the following: -The monthly activity

  • Works up to his or her ability in school and behaves.

  • Behaves at home

  • Displays leadership qualities and a sincere effort to improve while attending required classes in the Tiger Academy.

  • Returns the S.T.A.R. Home/School Approval Form no later than the third week of the month. No late forms will be accepted or lost ones replaced. Remember, we are teaching child responsibility.

Star Patches are worn on the left lapel of the uniform. Each month, the student gets a new patch. When the student reaches patch 12 (and this may take more than a year if the child skips a few of the S.T.A.R. monthly activities) a special graduation patch is awarded. This is the child's to keep.
